The Dining Room

When we moved into the house, the dining room was probably the room that was the easiest to make feel like home. The canvas was pretty blank so I knew just a simple coat of paint on the walls would make a huge difference.

Refresher: I don’t have a ton of “before” pictures of the dining room, but here are the few that I have.IMG_2708IMG_3687IMG_3712IMG_3716The week before our move, we had all of the carpet and vinyl flooring taken out and the entire first floor was laid with hardwoods.

I took the curtains down and gave the old rug away and got to painting. Luckily, our dining room table that was squeezed into our last house fit great in this space! I hung frames and curtains on the wall from our old house. I’m a big fan of finding fabric that I love and doing my own curtains. I can always make them a little bit longer than what is sold standard size in the store, and the selection is endless. (See here if this is something that you’re interested in!)

First go-round of this room landed like this.IMG_4025I still knew I wanted some kind of buffet for the back wall and began praying for the day I could change out that gold light!

After searching high and low, I still couldn’t find an affordable buffet that fit that space, so I pulled out my tools and my experience building things with my daddy, and went to work. I built it, white washed it, and am so proud of how it turned out.  It holds things like chargers, extra plates, candles, napkins for place settings. I  even added a rack at the bottom for storing our wine glasses!img_5240.jpgIMG_5244DSC_0065I liked the white frames that I had from our old house, but with all of the white trim work at the bottom of the walls, I knew I was wanting something with some warmth (and I knew the white frames would look good in the playroom!). So I took some new pictures of the kids, printed them, and then built these frames. They were great because I was able to frame to the exact picture size and choose the stain I wanted. And I have the ability to change out pictures whenever I want to. IMG_4479You can choose similar frames to these in the exact dimensions/stains you want in The Shop.

For my birthday this year, my prayers were answered (ha!) and I was finally able to swap out the light. I could not wait to get this bad boy down and replace it! I found this awesome chandlier from Lowes.  IMG_5803img_5885-e1515970282270.jpgAdded a few table decorations and, after a few months, the room has evolved into this and I love it!IMG_3105IMG_3455One of my favorite things I added to this room was the flower box on the table. I built this one and it has the flexibility to switch out flowers as seasons change. It was a pretty easy project and works really well in the space. (This is also one of the pieces that is offered in The Shop, if you are interested!)DSC_0072DSC_0085IMG_3445And that’s a wrap for the dining room!

  1. […] last part of this room to change was the light fixture.  It was a similar to the one in the dining room post.  I had my eye on it and Jason surprised me with it.  I love the wood tones on it and really like […]
