Since starting this blog a little over a month ago, a few of you have reached out and asked me to help with some things in your homes and it has been a lot of fun! So today I want to fill you in on some projects I have been/still am working on outside of my own home!
A good friend of mine is moving in to a new house this weekend (HOORAY!) and asked me to come and pick paint colors and floor stains/ finishes for the entire house. The house is beautiful and she got a paint allowance as part of their purchase but didn’t know where to start. The grey color of the walls was a little bit colder than she was wanting and the original floors weren’t in great shape and had an orange tone.
I loved spending an hour with her to pick colors. We chose a warmer neutral color for the walls and a new stain for the flooring. My friend sent me this picture last week as the contractors were finishing up and I am dying to see it all completed!
I have another friend who is rebuilding her entire house here in our neighborhood after a house fire last year. They’ve been working with contractors for about a year and the house is so close to being finished.
After my friend saw our master bathroom post, she asked me to install mirrors with wood frames like we did in that room.
She also wants some shelves with brackets for over the toilet similar to these.
I can’t wait to show pictures of how it turns out. She chose the most awesome black and white pattern tile too, so wood tones in there are going to look fantastic!
Similarly, I am building a big frame for an existing mirror in another friend’s master bathroom. It was previously framed with white trim molding (hung with double stick tape!) and she wanted to change it out. So I brought some wood samples in different sizes and tones, took some measurements, and have been working on building a frame for it. She also wanted some L-brackets on the corners, so I’ll these add once the frame is installed. Here’s a sneak peak of the staining and assembly. (please excuse the dirty garage covered in sawdust!)
I’ve been working on some open shelving for this same friend’s kitchen. She wanted the shelves to be thicker than a single piece of wood, so I’ve been putting these together with some really nice pine wood and a great color stain. The brackets just came in the mail and I hope to install these for her next Monday. Stay tuned for some pictures when it’s finished (if you’re not already, be sure to follow me on instagram or facebook for up to date pictures!). For now, here are some pictures of the shelves in-progress. I’m going to have to find a spot to recreate some of these somewhere in our house! They are so chunky and beautiful!
Last, I spent a few hours at the beginning of the month with another friend who is moving into a new (to them) home. I brought some paint samples and some ideas and was able to give lots of ideas on colors, furniture placement, what furnitures moves with them, what furniture goes, and some custom things she’s thinking about.
We’re going rug and drape shopping in the next few weeks and I’ve been helping her design a big custom built-in for their family room. Here is a rough sketch we’ve been tweaking and editing together for her to give to her carpenter!
I’m really grateful for all of these opportunities because they are each things I was hoping this blog would allow me to do. I love design. I love coming up with new ideas for old spaces. I’ve honestly felt so privileged to have had these people trust me with their homes and big decisions they are making.
If these are things that you might be interested in, please reach out! I would love to talk more with you!
As I’ve told you, I’ve also been working on the den in our house in my “free time” (AKA when the kids are in bed). It is really coming along and I can’t wait to share some pictures of the finished product!
Oh, and one last thing, just to make sure we’re all on the same page here… most of these blog posts on our house renovation are NOT real time. I am blogging about it now, but ALL OF IT SO FAR (except for the den) has already been done. I have had a few people ask how in the world I have found time for all of this. And the truth is, it’s taken me 2 years. I am just documenting it now! 🙂
