Over the next few weeks, I’d like take you through the planning, designing, building, and decorating phases of an entire project. Recently, I’ve been brainstorming getting a start on our little girl’s room so am going to use that as the example to walk through!
Here’s a picture of the room when we first saw it.
I painted it a blush pink when we moved in and added gold polka dots to one of the walls. We also changed up the configuration of the room so that the bed could be up against a wall (less chances for falling out!). I’ve hung a few other decorations but have been waiting to be “inspired” with what to do next. Here’s how it looks today.
I’m excited to share some of my ideas with you! Just for kicks, I put together an actual design proposal that I typically do for my clients to walk you through what I’m thinking for this space. Obviously, none of these snapshots are click-able, so if you scroll down to the bottom of this post, you can find a link to the actual document that you can click through if you’re interested in taking a closer look.
Here’s the first part…headboard and bed options. Any of these would be great for the room.
Then some curtain ideas. I am not 100% sure I will use curtains in here, but in case I want to, I have some options. I like whimsical, light curtains for this room. The windows have blinds and our kiddos do fine without light blocking panels, so we can get away with this. Also, bedding. Have you looked at bedding lately!? SO MANY GOOD OPTIONS!
I also think it could be fun to add a little bit of wallpaper to the room. Don’t freak out. I’m NOT committed to hanging actual, real wallpaper. No. I’m talking the removable kind, like I did in our small bathroom remodel. I’m not certain I will do this, but good to know there are some fun options out there!
Wouldn’t one of these be SO AWESOME in a little girl’s room?! This might have to be a down-the-road-project, due to budget constraints, but still fun to dream, right?!
I don’t want to do tons of built-ins in here because the room is pretty small, but I am thinking about a shallow set of shelves on the sides of the windows, and maybe a built in bench below the window.
And then these are my additional decoration ideas. I’d love to add some little picture ledges for books, a dollhouse, and maybe a nightstand for next to her bed.
Don’t these ideas look great? Not sure how close I’ll come to these when I get working, but this gives me a great starting point. What do you think?
Other things that are on my list that I’ve been picking up as I see them: frames, decorations for the shelves, a mirror, pillows, wall art, etc.
