I helped some friends in their laundry room a few weeks ago.Β While it was already pretty functional for this family of 6, they wanted to find a way for it to feel a bit more open and finished. Β They started by taking down the large cabinets over the washer and dryer and this is what they were left with.
I spent an hour in their home for a consultation and we came up with a basic plan for the space.Β I went home and followed up with a full plan in a design proposal. Β It looked something like this:
- Add one shallow shelf over W&D
- One Β½ shelf over washer (with hanging clothes rod over dryer)
- One full shelf on top
- Add one Β½ shelf over sink
- Add one full shelf on top
I worked on building, sanding, staining, and sealing the shelves at home and then spent about 4-5 hours on the install one morning.
Her husband painted the wall as we were making a few small adjustments (raised the bottom shelf up a bit and made it a bit deeper). They’re still hoping to purchase some matching baskets, but here is the almost-finished project! Β What a difference!

And I always have to include a good before and after π
