Lights with an easy trick

I have a quick trick to share with you today. (Don’t be too impressed. I didn’t come up with this on my own. I’ve just seen it all over others’ blogs and this was my first try at it.) Have you seen all those fun pictures with lights and sconces on people’s bedside tables, or in built-in shelves, or other fun places?

I have. And I LOVE THE IDEA. But I don’t love hanging visible cords. And I don’t love fishing wires through walls to hide them. So here is a crazy easy way to do this yourself.

First, grab a few sconces of your choice. Here are a few of my favorites:

Next grab some puck lights. They’re sold everywhere- Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, Amazon, etc. If you want to spend a few extra bucks, grab ones with a little remote control and then you can control the lights from anywhere in the house. (Note: I purchased cheaper ones off of Amazon at first and they did not work correctly. The batteries died almost instantly. So, I would say to look for ones in the “$30 for 6 lights” price range.

These are a great option and they came with a remote AND batteries!

Now you’re ready to put everything together. Grab your sconce and cut off the wires on the back. You won’t be needing those! Then use the hanging hardware it comes with and attach it to the wall. Then simply stick the light up into the fixture where the light bulb would typically go. You can use the sticky strips that the puck lights come with, or a hot glue gun always works wonders. Here is what it looks like from underneath.

Push the puck light, and VOILA! Let there be light. Sounds easy right?!! I promise it really is that easy. Check out a few of these bloggers if you want extra info or other examples of what to do.

Here is the kids’ finished workspace with the sconces! You can find the rest of the details on this space here.
