A few years ago, our kitchen got a big makeover. We painted kitchen cabinets, changed out knobs, and even updated some lighting. This is what the kitchen looked like before and after these updates.
We have always wanted to drop the bar top down and make it one big countertop, but knew that would involve replacing countertops. After a few years of saving, we were able to do it this winter! My dad came and helped with the structural changes. With these, we were also able to add some cabinets underneath for extra storage. Here are few pictures of the work in progress.
Once we got the cabinets in, it was time for new countertops. We chose a quartz called Ariel. It is white with very minimal veining. We LOVE it! The large countertop makes the kitchen so functional. It really opens up the space, too.
After the countertops went in, we decided to go ahead with a few last kitchen projects. First, I did a little work on the desk portion of the kitchen. I replaced the old desk that we weren’t using with a few sets of big drawers.
Then I took down the middle cabinets and did some built in shelves. Excuse the mess. 🙂
I also took down all the cabinet molding and built the cabinets up to the ceiling. Then I primed and painted it to match cabinets. (I didn’t know this would make such a big difference!)
And lastly, we put in a new vent and built a big wood hood around it! I love how this turned out (the microwave was moved to our butler’s pantry).
Tomorrow I will share some good “finished” photos!
